Diablo Canyon, near Santa Fe, is one of the first majestic places I visited in New Mexico. It’s a narrow canyon within ancient rock that holds silence the way a canyon holds water, everything smelling of sage and sun-warmed sandstone. I hiked it for the first time with Chris, both of us still figuring out what our move to New Mexico meant to us, and I knew before we left that I would have to paint it large.

At 84”×56", this is among the largest works I've made. The composition pulls you down the road and into the canyon, the rock walls rising in striated pink and ochre on either side, sagebrush alive in the foreground. It is a painting about arrival and about walking toward something vast and feeling, unexpectedly, at home.

Local pickup in Albuquerque or shipping by arrangement — this canvas can be rolled and shipped in a protective tube for distant buyers. Re-stretching by a local framer typically runs $150–300.
